Choose Useful Presents For a Baby Shower

Everybody knows what a baby shower is - a party to celebrate the mom-to-be or parents-to-be and the new baby. Intended to help parents get items that they need for their newborn, the baby shower is a popular tradition in the United States and in other cultures.

The baby shower has no definite rules, but it has its traditions that everybody tries to keep. The shower is given for the expected parent(s) by someone else as opposed to the parent(s) hosting it. Usually, the mother's maid of honor, or bridesmaids at her wedding, host this final event to celebrate the motherhood of their bride. Also, there are presents involved and many of us are in doubt when invited to a baby shower and don't know what to bring.

Searching for a gift for the newborn is not that hard, but finding gifts that are useful and practical is quite a challenge.

Here's what presents not to bring to a baby shower:

Clothes - maybe the most controversial gift. Remember that most parents like to choose their own baby clothes. Most parents usually receive at least one item that is either impractical, old fashioned or ugly and therefore, never worn. Let the parents choose the clothes for their baby and you won't be wrong.

Teddy bears and soft toys - they are a traditional gift, yes. But, in the first months, they're not useful, and just ornamental, as the baby is too young to play with them.

Ornamental gifts - like a porcelain shoe with the baby's name inscribed on it, or a golden container to to hold baby's first curl or the baby's first tooth. Many parents find these gifts impractical or over the top.

You should think about some other gifts that are truly useful for the parents: a book, blankets, baby gift baskets, a car seat or a portable chair to feed the baby.
