A Little About Newborn Baby Clothes

Every new baby needs newborn baby clothes. Before you are even permitted to take the baby out of the hospital you have to make sure that you have a change of clothes ready for the baby. Most families purchase their newborn baby clothes long before the baby is even born.

While some families may wait until they know which gender the baby will be others prefer not knowing the baby's gender until birth and therefore purchase newborn baby clothes which can be used by either gender. But no matter how you choose to look at it is important to know that before you even go into the hospital for the delivery of the child you have to make sure that you already have newborn baby clothes on hand.

12 Month Boy Clothes

There are so many options to choose from when it comes to getting these clothes for your baby. You will be needing things like hats and that as well as booties, shorts and shirts. Furthermore, you will also need things like blankets and towels as well. While these may not seem to be part of your standard concept of what makes newborn baby clothes, you'll come to a realization the moment you received the list of things that you will need from the doctor that these two particular items will also need to be included with your purchases.

A Little About Newborn Baby Clothes

Is important to make sure that what you get is all natural cotton fabric because they newborn baby may be allergic to certain types of fabrics and you do not need the baby to develop an allergic reaction before you even take it home. The good news is though, that generally the first couple of sets of clothing that you will purchase for your baby are actually affordable. Just make sure that they are easy to use because your baby will be wearing diapers as well as still have the umbilical cord attached for the first couple of weeks after the birth.

Baby Care - Some Newborn Child Care Tips For First Time Parents

1. Aside from the toys that might draw his interest, be certain to be attentive to his needs and spend a lot of your time with him. Show him that you adore and care for him. You need to make him be glad every time.

2. It's best to not use powder on the baby's butt because it might simply harm his lungs. It will also result to soreness to your baby's diaper rash or broken skin. For disposable diapers, be certain that they're well disposed of after being utilized.

3. Introducing a new kind of solid food ought to be gradual. You should allow many days to elapse before another food is given to him. This can make you alert to which food may result into problems such as allergies or rashes given that they can take place only when a new variety of food is taken by your baby.

4. At the age of 6 to 9 months, children can by now crawl and seat themselves. They'll by now grasp and take objects with their fingers and have better motor abilities. You should be giving your baby toys with wide-ranging styles and sizes that will meet his need to discover and his curiosity.

5. Language development toys would also be very useful at the age of 9 to 12 months as they'll already speak straightforward words like "mama", "dog", "no", etc. You can purchase toys that say understandable words or phrases when a button is pushed. You'll be able to also employ videos that he can watch to widen his speaking abilities.

Emotional Development of Babies - Newborn to 2 Years

Emotional development depends on the nature of situations or stimuli your baby is subjected to. The interaction style of the parent with the child has a significant role in this regard. A child shown much loving care and attention by the parent shows adequate emotional development. If the parents are themselves a source of stimulus of fear, then the child's emotional development will be affected. As the child grows up, relationship with same age-group children, school atmosphere and other environmental factors influence the emotional development.

Here is a timeline of when babies exhibit certain emotions.

Newborn - Two Months

The infant's emotional development starts with crying since the time of his birth. Newborns cry in order to communicate their need. At birth, infants are quiet when full and cry when hungry. The crying differs based on the different needs. Next the emotion of smiling appears. Smiling is of two kinds - the one which appears in the first month is involuntary and not in response to an external stimulus, the second one which appears by two months is in response to an external stimulus like a familiar face, mostly the mother's face. Early emotional expressions are similar among all infants. As they mature, more complex emotions begin to develop. Once the parents know about the basic needs of their infants, they can understand their emotional expressions.

3 Months

By about 3 months they begin to talk with coos and goos and by imitating sounds of their care-takers. This shows the emotion of happiness. Anger and distress too are shown out at this stage.

6 to 12 Months

At about 6 to 12 months, more complex emotions like fear for strangers and fear of being left alone are expressed. At the same time they express joy on social interaction with parents and familiar people.

12 to 18 months

Negative emotions like anger and distress are expressed more between 12 to 18 months, but these subside with development of language. A feeling of empathy is shown by 18 months - a feeling related to the feeling others are experiencing. for e.g when a sibling cries or is sad, the baby shows out the same feeling.

18 to 24 Months

Around 18 to 24 months, toddlers are self conscious and develop emotions like shame, pride and embarrassment.

How to Choose Newborn Baby Clothes

Amidst the excitement and sometimes frenzied preparation for a new baby, parents (including ones who already have children) experience moments of nervousness and anxiety. There are so many things to be ready for, and so many things that need to be on hand before baby comes home. One of these items to research and have ready for the arrival of the baby are newborn baby clothes.

Some of the best places to look for baby clothes are where they sell gently used items; this is a good idea as baby will outgrow and even ruin some clothing items rather quickly. This is a money saver, and helps to prevent hindsight, wondering why you wasted all that money on things that could have been spent on something else.

Most thrift stores, Goodwill, resale shops, etc. now have very nice items in stock. Clothing can be purchased in bulk at Goodwill for cents per pound. None of these stores will accept damaged or stained goods. eBay can also be a thrifty option. Most eBay sellers are quite fastidious these days, and they will not place junk in their online stores.

Registering at a store for the baby shower will result in brand new baby items, including clothing. However, if this is your first baby, or you have the resources to spend on new clothes, it is easier to do so than ever before. Mass retailers now have dedicated baby sections, and there are also mass baby specialty stores. Towns and cities often have resident run boutique stores that sell high end baby clothing.

Some of the fun in purchasing new clothing for baby is enhanced if the sex is known. Buying cute boy clothes, caps, and pajamas will result in high fashion fun for your baby boy. Buying for infant girls is extremely fun for most moms, and grandmothers may go a little overboard when it comes to the wardrobe of their granddaughter. Frilly dresses, bows, dress shoes, and matching pant suits seem to delight grandmas.

Practical solutions when getting ready for the stay in the hospital and then homecoming will now be discussed. Multiple infant bodysuits, or snapsuits, are the answered prayers of modern moms. They come in packs of multiples, and can be purchased in neutral colors if the sex of the baby is unknown. Since snapsuits are so economical, it is not a big concern if they are stained or torn as they can be cheaply replaced. The bodysuits provide easy access for diaper changing, and they make simple garments that keep baby cool in the summer.

Next are pajamas: zip sleepers will keep baby snug, and draw string gowns make nighttime changing a cinch. Multiple bibs are needed as most babies spit up; tiny newborn socks because their feet often get chilled; and burp cloths to assist further in cleaning the spit up messes.

Buying newborn baby clothes is a must before baby is born, and before he or she comes home. There are ways to buy these clothes in an economical and practical way, and there are also stores that make things easier by having devoted baby departments. Registering at a store can achieve the best results as far as "fun" clothes and stylish clothes for your baby. Buying newborn baby clothes does not have to be a daunting job.

Children's Clothes - What Every Newborn Needs

If you've never had children, or if yours have grown up and flown the next, you might be in a quandary about what to purchase for a baby shower gift. Even if you know that you want to buy clothes for newborns, it can be perplexing to sort through all of the boy's clothing and girl's clothing - not to mention children's shoes - and settle on baby clothing that will be both wanted and needed. Here are some tips to help you shop:

Look for Brand Name Children's Clothing: Off brands or discount store brands may seem like a bargain, but when it comes to clothes for newborns, you want to rely on popular and trusted manufacturers. When you do, you'll be assured of high quality fabric and workmanship that meet the latest safety standards. Moreover, you'll make it easy for the mom-to-be or new mother to exchange duplicate items or find pieces that coordinate with the one you purchase.

Think About Sizing: Clothes for newborns typically are sized either according to months (such as 0 to 3 months, 3 to 6 months, 6 to 9 months, and 9 to 12 months) or according to the baby's weight (such as 7 pounds and under, 8 to 10 pounds, and so forth). Moms-to-be often receive clothing gifts that are sized for babies that have just been born. The problem is, the baby quickly outgrows these clothes. That's why it's a great idea to purchase children's clothes that will come in handy three, six, or even nine months down the road. Buying larger infant sizes will ensure that the baby has clothes that fit as he or she grows.

Think About Gender: If you know that the baby is a boy, it's perfectly appropriate to select an adorable baseball-themed "Baby League" layette. Similarly, if you know that the baby is a girl, a Babykins pink coverall is an excellent choice. However, if you're not sure of the baby's gender, it's best to go with something in a gender-neutral color (like green or yellow), or to select an item that is perfect for boys and girls, such as a Sesame Street Big Bird bathrobe.

Think About Seasons: One mistake that many shower guests make is gifting children's clothes that don't match size and season. Put another way, if a baby is born in November, you need to take care not to purchase a size 3-month outfit consisting of shorts and a T-shirt. You can bet that the baby won't be wearing shorts in February. Similarly, you don't want to buy the baby a size 9-month jacket or heavy corduroy overalls. She'll overheat come August!

Find a Reliable Online Source: If you're not familiar with children's clothes, your best bet is to find a reliable online source for your shopping needs. Look for an online store that carries brand name children's clothing, and that has everything from clothes for newborns to children's shoes. The best online stores also offer gift certificates - a perfect present for a mom-to-be who will surely need to restock the layette as time goes on.

Newborn Baby's Head Seems To Be Lopsided - What Can I Do?

Is your newborn baby's head lopsided? If so, do not be overly concerned. Many newborn babies are born with slightly lopsided heads. There could be two possible causes for this:

1. Their heads are molded unevenly in the birth canal.

2. The head shape is affected by spending too much time in one position.

The two soft areas at the top of your baby's head are called "fontanels." The fontanels are designed to allow a baby's relatively large head to move down the narrow birth canal and to accommodate your baby's rapidly growing brain during the first 12 to 18 months of life.

Too much time in one position can result in an uneven head shape past the time when birth-related lopsidedness evens out. When this occurs it is known as "positional molding."

Positional molding is most common in babies who spend most of their time on their backs in cribs, car seats or infant seats. These sleeping positions are the safest for baby; however, there are some things you can do to keep your baby's head from becoming flat or lopsided while sleeping or resting in a safe position.

When positional molding occurs you will notice it more when you are looking at your baby's head from the top down. The back of the head may look flatter on one side than on the other. The cheekbone on the flat side may protrude, and the ear on the flat side may look pushed forward.

What you can do about positional molding:

o Change direction: First place your baby on its back for sleeping. Then alternate the direction your baby's head faces, or place your baby's head near the foot of the crib one day, the head of the crib the next day. Use these same varying positions in the car seat and other infant seats.

o Hold your baby: To relieve pressure on the head from swings, carriers and infant seats, routinely hold your baby when he or she is awake to help relieve this pressure.

o While you are there to totally supervise place your baby on his or her tummy to play. Be sure the surface is firm. If you leave the room, take your baby with you. Never your baby lying unsupervised to play on its tummy.

o Move the crib occasionally to give your baby the opportunity to turn away from the flattened side of the head to look at you or follow the sounds of movement in the room.

Typically, changing the baby's head position will prevent or treat flat spots. If the lopsidedness does not improve the doctor may prescribe a special headband or molded helmet.

Helmets and headbands are worn continuously during the treatment period except during times of cleaning the helmet and bathing; the devices are most affective from ages 4 months to 12 months.

It is rare that anything more serious is wrong. However, at times two or more of the bony plates in a baby's head fuse prematurely. This is known as craniosynostosis and is usually treated with surgery during infancy.

A similar condition called metopic synostosis causes a pointed forehead. It is also treated with surgery during infancy. Most of all do not spend a lot of time worrying about your baby's head shape. Most babies do not have a long term problem with improper head shape. Be sure to practice the varying head positions and your baby should develop normally and right on time.
